Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Line two large baking trays with baking paper.
To make the filling, mix the soft butter, sugar and spices together.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and gently cut it into six even pieces. Roll out one piece of dough until you have a rectangle about 30 x 20 cm (12 x 8 inches). Spread the dough with one-sixth of the filling. Gently, but as tightly as you can, roll the dough from the longest edge into a long sausage. Use a serrated knife to slice the dough in half lengthways to make two long half-cylinders. Put the halves next to each other, cut sides up, and braid together, forming a wreath as you go. It sounds a bit tricky but really it’s not – just press the ends together and place one piece of dough over the other, always with the cut side facing up, then lay the other piece over the top and so on, working it into a circular wreath shape. Press the ends together.
Repeat with the remaining dough and filling, then gently transfer the wreaths to the trays. Bake for about 25 minutes or until the wreaths are risen and golden. Dust with icing sugar and serve warm. If you’re serving these the next day, warm them up in the oven.
